This is Birmingham’s “Glass Palace” - the city’s newest super-hospital which will be built in 1,000 days’ time. The 670-bed Midland Metropolitan Hospital will be located in Grove Lane, Smethwick, and will have 15 operating theatres, emergency and acute services - as well as a glass-fronted winter garden on the fifth floor.

With business booming for many architects, Lucy went to Oxford Brookes to scout for new talent for London practice Edward Williams Architects and was not disappointed. The new glass box atrium makes a splendid venue for a party – and there was a buzzing atmosphere on the opening night.
