Edward Williams

Managing Director

As Managing Director of Edward Williams Architects Edward is involved with all projects throughout their life in the Studio. Edward works regularly with Laura and the studio teams on design through weekly design charettes and design issue reviews.

Edward is active in the profession, he enjoys sitting on competition review boards, being a visiting architectural critic, lecturing on architecture and urbanism, and writing widely on the topics of architecture, sustainability and architectural practice. He has also organised multiple architectural tours that highlight the wealth of design within Europe.

Edward is a committed champion for better buildings, communities and the environment through his involvement with the Royal Institute of British Architects in London (RIBA) and the British Architectural Library Trust (BALT), a New York Charity.  He is a founding Board Member of BALT since its inception in 2013, and was appointed to the role of Honorary Librarian at the RIBA from 2012-2016, and still works to raise funds in the USA to support the work of the library and its collection through his work with BALT. He served on the RIBA Executive Board and was a Trustee and Council member from 2012 - 2018. He continues to sit on the RIBA Public Education Committee. From 2002 to 2010 he was a Governor of Bedales Schools and chaired the Buildings Committee while overseeing a successful re-development programme for the Schools.

Over the course of his 30 year career he has worked on some of the most innovative architectural landmarks in the UK and the USA including our Proton Beam Therapy Centre for UCLH, London and the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital, Birmingham. When working as an equity partner at Hopkins Architects he delivered many celebrated projects including Glyndebourne Opera House, the Wellcome Trust offices, library and exhibitions, the Macmillan Cancer Centre at UCLH (both in London) and Princeton University Frick Chemistry Laboratory, USA.

Edward received his Diploma in Architecture and Urban Design from Oxford Brookes University in 1991, and his MA in Architecture from Cambridge University in 1988.
